67. James⁴ H. R. Stafford (William¹, Robert², Andrew³) Born in about 1833 in Indiana¹ [probably in Morgan County]; died and was the eldest child of Andrew and Mary Stafford. He married Mary Jane Cox when he was about 22 years old² and in less than 1 year after his marriage, he died.³ Mary Jane was only 19 years old when she was widowed and left with their infant daughter, Amanda, to raise.⁴ Amanda was born near the time of her father's death. The cause of James' death is not known at this time. Mary Jane was the daughter of William Cox, who later married James' mother, Mary Stafford neé Lang.

Mary Jane married within a year of James' death. Mary Jane and Robert S. Kelley married in Johnson County on 07 November 1857. Robert Kelly and William Cox were appointed guardian for Amanda Stafford after the death of her father. Links to these documents are provided below.
