Frances "Marion" and Emeline M. Stafford nee Adams 48. Frances "Marion" Stafford 4 (William1, Robert2 Benjamin2) was born about 30 May 1839 in Morgan County, Indiana.1a,b He was the 4th child of Benjamin and Margaret Price.2 He died in Morgan County, Indiana on 14 May 1908 at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 14 days. He was buried at the Centerton Cemetery in Morgan County, Indiana.1a,b He married Miss Emeline M. Adams, who was the daughter of William E. and Fanny Adams,3 on the 13 June 1858.4 William E. and Fanny Adams were also the parents of James M. Adams, who married Miss Rose Ann Stafford, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Stafford nee Lang. Rose Ann and Frances Stafford were first cousins and their spouses, James M. and Emeline Adams were brother and sister. The census records for Marion Stafford seem to indicate he lived his entire life in Morgan County, Indiana. See below in the documentation section for links to the census records for Frances M. Stafford.
Marion and Emeline Stafford were faced with tragedy shortly after they married. Their first baby, a daughter, died shortly after birth on 10 November 1859. She was buried at the Centerton Cemetery in Clay Township.5 Their next child was a son, William E. Stafford. He was born in 1861 and when he grew to manhood was known as "Wild Bill." [See article about his gold prospecting.]
Marion and Emeline Stafford were the parents of eight children. Emeline died 26 January 1874 at the age of 30 years, 8 months and 14 days in Morgan County, Indiana and was buried in Centerton Cemetery.6 Only 9 months after losing Emeline to death, Marion Stafford married Mrs. Rebecca Doyle7,8,9 on 04 September 1874 in Morgan County, Indiana.10
Marion and Rebecca Stafford were enumerated in Clay Township where Marion's parents lived in 1880.9 They continued to live there for the rest of their lives. It is not known whether or not Marion had any children with Rebecca. If so, apparently none lived to adulthood. The 1880 census shows Marion and Rebecca Stafford with a household consisting of 2 adults and his children ranging in age from 19 to 7 and hers ranging in age from 17 to 12.9 Emeline died in January 1874,6 James Stafford, her last child was born in 18739 and Marion married Rebecca in September of 1874.11 In 1900 the census taker recorded that Rebecca Stafford was the mother of 6 children with 4 living.12 Rebecca Stafford died on 13 April 1908 and was buried in the Highland Cemetery, located Gregg Township, Morgan County, Indiana.
